KEDIRI, KOTA SEJUTA MISTERI

Tak banyak yang menyadari jika Jalan Dhoho yang membelah jantung Kota Kediri, Jawa Timur, sudah ada semenjak zaman Majapahit atau permulaan 1184 M. Dan waktu itu Kediri masih bernama Kadhiri yang merupakan ibukota dari kerajaan kecil yang bernama Gelang-gelang.

Dan karena aliran Sungai Brantas bisa dilayari sampai kota Blitar, maka, oleh R. Wijaya yang akhirnya dikenal sebagai Sri Paduka Kertarajasa menjadikan Kediri sebagai bandar utama. Dan sudah sejak lama, berbagai hasil bumi dari wilayah sekitar kota “tahu” (Blitar, Tulungagung dan Trenggalek) selalu singgah di Kediri sebelum diperdagangkan ke kota raja (Mojokerto) atau ke Ujung Galuh (Surabaya).

Dan ketika Kaisar Khu Bilai Khan melakukan penyerangan ke Singosari yang pada akhirnya dibelokkan ke Kediri oleh R. Wijaya, maka, tragedi sempat memporakporandakan kota. Pada akhirnya, garnisun serdadu Tartar yang kala itu menguasai kota dihabisi oleh rakyat. Bangkai mereka berceceran di pinggiran Sungai Brantas. Menurut prakiraan dan beberapa sumber yang Iaik dipercaya, saat itu, kaisar dari Tiongkok mengirim lebih dari 10.000 serdadu yang diangkut lebih dari 1.000 kapal perang. Saat itu Brantas sedang meluap, sebab hujan turun hampir sepanjang malam. Siluman-siluman itu bisa jadi gabungan antara arwah di zaman PKI dan serdadu Tar-Tar.”
